This superb translation by E.H.Palmer dates to 1900 and has been called a beautiful work of English in its own right. Palmer was a prolific Arabic and Persian translator and his edition of The Qu'ran is considred by many to be a classic. Most importantly, Palmer brings not only an appealing clarity to this ancient and revered text, but the ear of a poet. The Koran, literally meaning ‘The Recitation’ it is the central religious text for Muslims who believe the text was verbally revealed by God to the Prophet Muhammad in Arabic through the angel Gabriel over a period of approximately 23 years. Muslims regard koranic revelations as the sacred word of God, intended to correct any errors in previous holy books such as the Old and New Testaments. The Koran is accepted as the foundation of Islamic law, religion, culture and politics. Some Koranic fragments have been dated as far back as the eighth, and possibly even the seventh, century. The oldest existing copy of the full text is from the ninth century. Although early variants of the Koran are known to have existed, Muslims believe that the text we have today was established shortly after the death of the Prophet by the Caliph Uthman.

We are living now-a-days in the age of science. The intelligent human beings want to know where did they come from? Where did the universe come from? Will the universe come to an end, if so, how? Is the universe static or dynamic, if dynamic, is it expanding or contracting? What is time? When was it started? Will it come to an end? What are Black Holes? What are the forces of Nature? What is the smallest piece of matter? What is the status of man in the universe? Are there ultimate limits for human beings to know about something? The majority of people especially in the third world are unable to answer these questions. When they are asked such questions, most of them answer with a shrug or with a vague and ambiguous knowledge. On the basis of Holy Qur'an as well as scientific knowledge, we have tried my level best to answer these questions in this book "Astrophysics and the Holy Quran".

There are many books that attempt to show the similarities between Islamic beliefs and Christian beliefs. While this book does accomplish that, it takes a step further, using the verses of the Qur’an to show more than just similarity of beliefs. It shows that Muslims believe in Jesus and, according to their scriptures, believe in following Christ. It shows that they believe the Christian churches of the time were following apostate beliefs. The people of Islam were awaiting the restoration of all Truths as taught by all prophets including Jesus Christ. There are many who do not realize the sheer number of references to Christ that exist in the Qur’an. Nor do many realize the teachings about the council in heaven, the creation, the occurrences in the Garden of Eden, the need for prophets, the miraculous conception of Jesus, Jesus’ restoration of the true religion, miracles performed by him, his resurrection and ascension, the apostasy; the prophecies of other chosen people and scriptures, another restoration and more prophets yet to come as taught in the verses of the Qur’an. This work should be, if not intriguing, at least enlightening for every reader no matter what their religious background or beliefs. Some alternate spellings for Qur’an are koran and quran.
